This week, we’re joined by Boston Hunters captain Alli Schroder, one of the players helping usher in a new era of professional baseball.
Alli takes us through a remarkable baseball journey. From pitching for Team Canada at just 16 years old and winning a World Cup bronze medal, to becoming the first woman to play in the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Conference, to being selected fifth overall in the inaugural WPBL Draft and becoming captain of the Boston Hunters.
We talk about the pressure of taking the mound against Team USA as a teenager, the slider that’s been one of her calling cards, being a dangerous hitter at the professional level, and what it means to finally play in a league where women playing baseball isn’t treated as the exception.
And because apparently professional baseball wasn’t enough, Alli also tells us about her other job: fighting wildfires in British Columbia; including bringing a glove and Driveline balls to fire camp just to keep her arm ready. Baseball, leadership, pressure, breaking barriers, fighting actual fires, and helping build the future of the sport.
